How Audiences read adbusters

The preferred reading of Adbusters is to make the reader wake up and see what is happening in the world, the main example of this is the Louboutin Advert.

Adbusters offers readers freedom from conventional magazines, it is being subversive

Another use is that middle class audiences can identify with it

They ant you to actively read it, they want them to act upon it, they don't want you to just read it, they want you to act upon what you are seeing, like Black Friday, they want you to buy nothing.

Inform the readers on the harsh reality of what is really going on

Adbusters gives the audience a status, only a certain type of people will get what you are talking abou t

It is a commodity

It is hypercritical

When extracts of books are posted in a magazine it is for publicity, so it is an advert, which Adbusters is all about NOT DOING.  The article is not well set, it is all off centre, words are slightly cut off at the top and bottom.  This could be to show how society is not perfect and is damaged and broken, the oppositional reading is that they just wanted to make it look less boring and to show that they haven't tried and did it haphazardly.

James Curran And Jean Seaton - Theory of Power in the media industries, media industries are owned by very few companies so power is unevenly distributed, A conglomerate an example of this is IPC media who's resolution to competition is buying the competitors, you need to have money to do this.

Livingstone and Lunt is regulation theory, that the guidelines that media products have to follow, however, the regulations are pretty pointless as digital technology allows you to get around it.

Adbusters demonstrates anti capitalist characteristics, Adbusters is owned by the Adbusters Media Foundation,  they are anti advertisement, and they therefore make no profit.

Coan Seaton argue that adverts do not change your mind but if it already in your mind t strengthens your beliefs and reinforces your belief.
