Hyperreality

Hyperreality - the concept where the representation is more real than the thing it is representing

"it is no longer a question of imitation, nor duplication, nor even parody.  IT is a question of the substituting the signs of the real for the real" - Jean Baudrillard

A simulation is a perfect recreation of something real but a simulation cannot be real

"If 'the signs of the real' hold more power, and seem more real, then what is reality"

Simulacra - simulacrum (plural: simulacra from Latin: simulacrum, which means "likeness, similarity") is a representation or imitation of a person or thing. The word was first recorded in the English language in the late 16th century, used to describe a representation, such as a statue or a painting, especially of a god.

Augmented Reality

Deep Fakes

"We live in a fantasy because the 'real world' is too depressing to even consider"

"The fake is more real than the thing it is replacing"

Video Games - the reality of the games your playing are traumatic and not fun at all

Propaganda - One of the ultimate forms of hyperreality

Post Modernism - It cannot be defined. hyperreality comes under post modernism.  Post Modernism one that deliberately breaks rules

The Breakfast Scene

Anita herself is an example of Hyperreality
Abjection - The ability to not be able to hold 2 thoughts in your head at once
The actual breakfast itself is hyperreal
"The Jam's in-in a thing!" Sophie is GASSED
The first thing a family do is start to argue, Matty calls Her brother "Crusty Sheets" etc.

Postmodernism - Anti Theory - it will often be deliberately offensive, it will criticise metanarratives such as religion or silence.  They are trashy on purpose - for example, Hobo Couture from Dior's spring summer collection.  Breaking the fourth wall.  Deliberately complicated narratives and all style no substance.

Bricolage and borrowing from other texts, it relies on the audiences understanding of Sci-Fi to decode it and there are some explicit references of intertextuality
