Lexis - Language choice in an advert
Diametric Positioning - Extreme oposites
Paradigmatic Features - Denoting the relationship between a set of linguistic items that form mutually exclusive choices in particular syntactic roles.

Media Language

Kiss of the Vampire - The paradigmatic aspects of the bats imply that they are evil as they are a vampires reincarnated self and, therefore, their best friend.  They are shown as strong a veracious as they are attacking the women.  The most explicit horror paradigmatic is the blood dripping of the 'V' which is shaped like the fang of a vampire.  The connotation of the low-key lighting is that things will lurk in the shadows and there is a mystery to the film.  The woman on the right with the dark hair is shown as atypical of women in horror films, example being the women on the left, due to her being bitten she is now a vampire but also is weak as she allowed to be taken by the vampire in the first place, where as the woman on the left is shown struggling and fighting for her freedom.  The Women also appeal to men and Lesbians however at that time it would have appealed more to men I assume although there was lesbians at the time I feel they would not have spoken out about their sexuality.  The font appears to be made out of wood which is also the same material a stake is made from which also happens to be a Vampires weakness which is iconic to a classic horror film, showing the iconography that a kiss is the vampires weakness.

Tide Advert - The hand drawn Mes en Scene instantly shows how dated this advert is.  The target audience is women aged from 30+, housewives.  The tagline is a very stereotypical and represents women as only wanting good washing powder and assumes that they are not allowed to have any other wants except Tide, it comes across demanding and persuasive as if Tide has not got what you want you're not a 'real' woman.  The sans serif font looks to be created by hand and the red has connotations of love and a love for Tide washing product.  The way the women is looking up, looking smitten and piercing her lips as if ready to kiss to the box also having the love hearts above her head to signify the strong passion she feels towards the product, which is a proairtic code, it also shows her absolute devotion to the washing powder and that she would never consider leaving Tide for another product as women at that time would never dream of infadelity.  Tide was started in 1946 and is still available and is still the market leader to this day.  DMB&B advertising agency ran the advertising for Tide.  Its campaign is referred to as P&G as their market research showed that consumers had confidence in the company.  DMB&B used print and radio as well as well as that way they their audience could establish a familiarity with the brand.  Both media forms used the 'housewife' character and the ideology that their users loved and adored Tide products.  The tagline is blunt and demanding and would be more at home an a plaquard in a riot, it also leaves no room for a response.  This media product lso seems top be providing a hybrid lifestyle where, not only will it give you a super clean and lovely clothes, it will give you love and a romance.  the woman on the top left is holding a sign with the the same font and colour of the tagline but with the words 'Clean' and 'Tide' the Lexis of these two words being bold and in red is to show that that is what Tide goes hand in hand with, cleanliness, and that those are the only two things that matter.  There is also a sidebar with the words 'Cleanest...Whitest...Brightest' which are exactly what everyone wants their washing to be.  The word 'miracle' connotes a supernatural religious aspect to the product and shows it may be a God send.  There is another hyperbole 'whiter - yes -whiter' the conversational speech allows you to feel close to the product as it feel it is not trying to use words that you do not understand and that they are on your level, it also being a hyperbole shows that they are the best at getting your stuff white.  There is no men in this advert showing that this is specifically aimed at women but there is five women and no men.  This demonstrates that women loving cleaning and that it is a stereotype.  This is an issue as it can be classed as offensive.

Representation - Annihilation
Ideology of women is portrayed as a typical of a big budget Sci-Fi movie (except Alien).  With an all women leading cast is breaks down the stereotype of women being the weaker characters in the genres movie.  It has every character type from the muscle, brains, wisdom, who is also the leader, newbee and lead all played by women, this shows to film companies and the audience that a good film with good characters does not need a man to make it any better.  This places the women at the top as in the movie they are the ones who venture into the unknown without any men to 'protect' them, showing their independence.  With the women they have also casted two black actresses to break down other racial barriers as typically in films of this genre and similar the black member of the group dies first, in this film that may not be the case at all and would therefore breakdown another stereotype.  The muscle member of the group however does appear more masculine and therefore does fall into the stereotype o the more masculine member being the one who does all the heavy work.  The Lexis Annihilation signifies two things, the team either annihilate the threat or get annihilated by the threat, this word signifies violence and complete strength to get rid of something completely with out leaving a trace, however the tagline shows that it may be the group who are the ones to get Annihilated.  The light shining on the sides of all of there faces signifies that there is hope right in front of them but they can not reach it as once they are in they can not get out, so that appending doom is certain no matter what.  The heaven that seems to be behind them is thriving with green grass and flowers and even some animals that resemble deers, however lurking in amongst all of this is the threat that have come to Annihilate or that is there to Annihilate them, this monster on the left is camouflaged in this paradise and is lurking behind the protagonists showing that the threat is watching them but that don't even know it, the belief is that his thing could be watching them the whole time waiting to attack.
