Mock exam on Newspapers

In what ways could media products incorporate ideologies and view points ᆞ Explore how audiences can respond to and interpret the ideological perspectives of media products P- make a point related to the question E- Back it with examples E- Explain your point deeper Ideologies = Beliefs and values  Ideologies are presented through many ways in newspapers and it is (not) done subtly as to get away with being biased for example.  The newspapers I will be looking at The Daily Mirror and The Times, at the point of Trump winning his election for Presidency. The first Newspaper, the Daily Mirror sets the location and setting of the front page in New York.  The mise-en-scene of the clouds demonstrates to the audience this is an attack on the scale of 911 or worse due to them resembling smoke and that having connotations of destruction.  It is totally inappropriate as it is referencing terrorism and also links to the dystopian book '1984' and also the subject ...

In what ways could media products incorporate ideologies and view points ᆞ Explore how audiences can respond to and interpret the ideological perspectives of media products P- make a point related to the question E- Back it with examples E- Explain your point deeper We are not looking at reality we are looking at how the producer wants us to see it, it is a representation Todorov's theory of narrative equilibrium Lexis is the choice of language used The more graphic, the closer it is to the front of the paper 'if it bleeds it leads' Emotionally Manipulated headline with a full page article on the front page showing it is very important to them.  Narrativization is the process of making a story out of news for example   - Daily Mirror The photos of the family is asking the audience to build a bond with the 'parents' Believing that one ethnicity/culture is better than the other ethnocentrism Online newspapers are over taking physical newspapers ...

Newspapers🗞

Ideological Perspectives of Newspapers📰 and Magazines🗞 Ideology is the ideas and beliefs of the producer.  Certain stories are chosen based on the TA's interests so they will be entertained and therefore buy the newspaper.  The process of selecting what will be in the newspaper is called Newsworthiness. A broadsheet newspaper has a formal mode of address, larger, more expensive more political A tabloid focuses more on gossip, more opinionated and more about gossip Intertextuality is where one media product refers to another the most popular or famous example of this is the parody genre of film.  The double of address is where a media product targets two TA's.  The symbolic code of the dark clouds represent the dark times ahead and could also foreshadow the apocalypse the trump could bring with him and how he leads america are also shown by the background too. The intertextuality of Cloverfield, Walking Dead and post apocalyptic films shows how much ...

Constructing Representations

One of advantages of newspaper having political ideologies is it enables them to identify a target audience for their media product A broadsheet newspaper has a formal mode of address, larger, more expensive more political A tabloid focuses more on gossip, more opinionated and more about gossip Broadsheet have more text then tabloid The Typeface is smaller for a broadsheet and there is less jokes and a broadsheet is more sophisticated The main image takes up less space for a broadsheet Tabloid, large type face and a big image and a less formal mode of address and they use examples of stories involving human interest that does not affect us it interests us. Sensationalist is a story told to annoy people Polysemic is something with two tor more meanings and is what newspapers try and avoid.  Newspapers use an anchor(age) is the fixing of a meaning in a media product.  Newspapers also have an agenda which is an aim or a target Both Newspapers Anchor the audi...

Set Texts - Daily Mirror, The Times Long Road is depicted as a serious college and friendly due to there being a lot  of pictures of students so you feel you know the people that go there already.  The fact it is called college instead of a school shows the level of maturity, this is a big step from school.  However the guy on the left seems relaxed an casually and completely relaxed to show that kind of atmosphere is set at long.  The College needs to stand out with its own identity to stand out and encourage others to come to the college. Long Road needs to be different and to have a USP to set them apart from the others and beat the 'competition'. Diseminate - To have a unique and destictive logo for your company Shell - Yellow = bright, happy, Warm, positovity, optamism Red = Royal, Exlusivity, love and passion The shape - The shape looks like a sunrise, new day, new start new car feeling, fresh.  The shell connotes protection and it is not i...

Newspaper focuses on a variety of subjects where as a magazine would focus just on one.  Newspaper's also have multiple images on the front and therefore have a large, bold font for their headlines whereas a magazine has what is known as a cover line.  Newspapers are printed on shittier paper where as a magazine is on good quality.  The newspaper structure is a lot more angular and boxy where as a magazine is more fluid and open.  The newspaper industry is a specialised industry.

Cultivation theory - The growing of ideology- watch violent films, you become violent, not always true as it does not happen to everyone and not everyone is as easily manipulated Children are easily manipulated Hegemonic Power - Where you obey rules and regulations that are classed as normal, wearing clothes, going to the toilet, makes life easier in the long term This adidas campaign was fighting and breaking down the hegemonic code however there was uproar and the model even received rape threats. Stuart Hall - Not only was he the theorist of audience, he was also the theorist of believing that the 'right; reading of media text can be enforced by positioning.  This concept has to be approached carefully: often texts initially have multiple meanings/readings, and of course, as we discovered, audiences can potentially get whatever they want out of any media text. Dominant Reading - The audience agrees with the dominant values in the text and agrees with the ...
